The fear of the Other and the hate speech are phenomena increasingly and socially widespread: this makes necessary an educational response to promote intercultural competences. The school could become a place to promote non-discriminatory practices and to reduce prejudice, which is usually about minority groups (as migrants), raising awareness among students to migration and deconstructing stereotypes. According to literature, the present educational project uses strategies regarded as the most effective (as contact, empathy and perspective taking), through the migrants’ drawings collected by the artist Bryan McCormack for the international project Yesterday-Today-Tomorrow. The lessons plan is structured in 8 lessons, involving pupils (9 or 10 aged) in three primary schools. Using drawings by children migrants was useful to create a contrasting effect between their own experiences and refugees’ ones, in order to stimulate a deep emotional understanding of the migration experience.
La paura dell’Altro e il linguaggio dell’odio, fenomeni sempre più diffusi e socialmente condivisi, rendono urgente e necessaria una risposta educativa che promuova le competenze interculturali. La scuola può costituire un luogo per favorire pratiche antidiscriminatorie e per ridurre il pregiudizio verso i gruppi minoritari (ad esempio i migranti), stimolando nei bambini la riflessione sui fenomeni migratori e decostruendo gli stereotipi. Il progetto educativo presentato nell’articolo utilizza le strategie considerate come più efficaci dalla letteratura (il contatto, l’empatia e il perspective taking), mediate dai disegni prodotti da persone migranti e raccolti dall’artista Bryan McCormack nel progetto internazionale Yesterday-Today-Tomorrow. Il progetto, articolato in 8 incontri, è realizzato in classi quinte di scuola primaria, con disegni di migranti della stessa età dei destinatari: il contrasto tra l’esperienza degli alunni e quella dei migranti produce un apprendimento e una comprensione, anche emotiva, del fenomeno della migrazione e del vissuto dei migranti.
