This creative work tells how a city, pushed by the difficulties of its geographical position, can develop a valid system for saving rain water, one of the few existing sources of hydric supply. The pictures are conceived as a descendent flux, to evoke the rain path. The water falling down through roofs, drainpipes and calcareous soil defines the most powerful architectural features of Matera and outlines its image as a city of the future. Abstract

Water is city’s blood, if there is no water, there is no life. Matera, the city of stone, it is also considered the city of hidden water. This is due to the ability in collecting water in underground cisterns, in a territory mainly characterized by its dryness. We chose the specific session: METABOLISM to highlight the importance of the awareness in the use of the city’s resources and strengths, as rainfall is for Matera. This shows the heritage as a mirror that can lead the city to reflect its legacy with new eyes.
