The present study investigates the effect of an immediate interview on the subsequent ability to recount a real stressful event. Children between 9 and 12 years of age were observed having a blood sample taken. Children were assigned to one of three groups: two groups were interviewed immediately after the event and interviewed again one or two weeks later while a third group was interviewed only once, two weeks after the event. On the interview two weeks after the blood sample children that had been interviewed immediately after the event refer fewer episodes compared to children interviewed for the first time. The results suggest that the opportunity to recount immediately a stressful event can influence the way children subsequently relate the event and therefore represents a useful tool to process the experience.

Abstract
The present study investigates the effect of an immediate interview on the subsequent ability to recount a real stressful event. Children between 9 and 12 years of age were observed having a blood sample taken. Children were assigned to one of three groups: two groups were interviewed immediately after the event and interviewed again one or two weeks later while a third group was interviewed only once, two weeks after the event. On the interview two weeks after the blood sample children that had been interviewed immediately after the event refer fewer episodes compared to children interviewed for the first time. The results suggest that the opportunity to recount immediately a stressful event can influence the way children subsequently relate the event and therefore represents a useful tool to process the experience.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
