This article discusses the video of Irene's Aria "As with rosy steps the morn" in Handel's oratorio Theodora as staged by Peter Sellars for the Glyndebourne Festival in 1996 and videorecorded by Sellars himself that year. I investigate the connections between the mise en scène and the video of it, focusing in particular on issues of découpage and types of shots, and on the performance as Irene of mezzosoprano Lorraine Hunt Lieberson.
