Long-TermFollow-Up After Pulmonary Biological Valve Replacement in Repaired Tetralogy of Fallot
OBJECTIVE: Surgical pulmonary valve replacement (PVR) with tissue valve, Edwards Magna bovine pericardium, is the treatment of choicefor Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). The aim of this study is to evaluate the duration of this kind of valve after a 15 years follow up. METHODS: In this study, data of 135 patients who underwent tissue PVR between 2000 to 2014 at our Centre were collected retrospectively. Data were gathered from all available medical records, using last echocardio study as main parameter to define the valve durability over time. RESULTS: Of 135 patients who underwent PVR 4 died (death rate: 3.05%). 50 patients were without regurgitation (37%), 86(63%) had some grade of regurgitation and 3 (2.22%) had some grade of valve stenosis. Regarding the patient with regurgitation, 72(85%) mild, 9(10%) moderate and 4(5%) severe regurgitation. Reintervention needed in 3 cases at 5 years, 1 at 10 yrs and 1 at 15 yrs of follow up. Deaths were 3 at 5 yrs, 0 at 10 yrs and 1 at 15 yrs CONCLUSIONS: In our study, tissue valve for PVR in TOF repair showed optimal mid/ long term result.
