Abstract

Introduction Research on children’s talk about the mind contributed to highlight how ToM becomes progressively explicit and observable through language. A number of studies have documented a relation between internal state words and socio-emotional competence (Dunn et al. 1991) and executive functions (EF) (Carlson et al. 2004). Between three and five years of age, children progress remarkably on both ToM tasks and on EF tests and several studies have demonstrated a developmental link between Inhibitory control (IC) and ToM (Carlson & Moses, 2001). Few studies have examined the relationship between internal state language (ISL) and temperament, showing contradictory results. Bretherton and Beegley (1982) have shown that internal state language was not related to temperament at 28 months of age. By contrast, Carlson et al. (2004) reported significant correlations between temperamental dimensions, internal state language and EF at 24 months of age. Aims The goal of the present study wa
