From sprawl to green infrastructure: the SDI as opportunity

The attached paper will demonstrate how nowadays the concept and the value of green infrastructure has changed compared to the past. The current planning of Green Infrastructures plays a key role in spatial planning, both at local level and at central level, that is implementing policies to address urban sprawl and the accelerated and fragmented soil sealing. Therefore it is unthinkable not to consider the importance of INSPIRE and the SDIs implementation have in this process. The paper thus intends to address some considerations and potential discussions about the impact that the data models of some INSPIRE themes have on the green infrastructure planning. Topic, among others, dealt with in the research project TURAS (Transitioning towards Urban Resilience and Sustainability - http://www.turas-cities.org/).
