This paper shows that the solution of the Birkhof–Rott equation for the vortex sheet can be approximated, for short times, by the solutions of the Euler equation for a thin vortex layer of vorticity, when its thickness vanishes and its vorticity intensity diverges suitably. The result is obtained in an analytical setup, and an example seems to indicate that this is indeed necessary.
