Despite the widely acknowledged relevance of emotions for effective leadership, the issue of distance and the extent to which it is intertwined with emotions and the process of leading is still under-explored. In this symposium, authors address this novel topic from multiple perspectives. Authors propose several models and demonstrate how: leaders can steward followers’ negative emotional experiences; social and emotional skills may help in managing leader-follower(s) distance; leader-follower(s) emotional/relational sync has neural bases; psychological distance ensues from lack of information and may results in ignoring leaders’ messages; and management of emotional contagion can be included in leader’s action.

Abstract
Despite the widely acknowledged relevance of emotions for effective leadership, the issue of distance and the extent to which it is intertwined with emotions and the process of leading is still under-explored. In this symposium, authors address this novel topic from multiple perspectives. Authors propose several models and demonstrate how: leaders can steward followers’ negative emotional experiences; social and emotional skills may help in managing leader-follower(s) distance; leader-follower(s) emotional/relational sync has neural bases; psychological distance ensues from lack of information and may results in ignoring leaders’ messages; and management of emotional contagion can be included in leader’s action.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
