Abstract

In the light of structural changes in the global economy, manufacturing companies strive for a greater flexibility, to speed up the innovation process, to cut costs while rising the quality, and to be environmentally and socially responsible (European Commission, 2010). It is clear that a new model of manufacturing is necessary to compete. Cooperation is becoming more and more important (KPMG, 2012): the individual competition is shifting in the network competition (European Union, 2004) . Accordingly, firms need to find new paths of collaboration and to balance autonomy and interdependence.Dutch high-tech suppliers to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in the high-mix, low-volume, high-complexity machines industry seem to be experimenting a new inter-organizational form. The aim of the article is to describe this innovative form of collaboration
