The article is focused on the first postwar situation of Poland, when the birth of a new indipendent State proposed problems of different nature. The contribution starts from some Italian military documents to describe the conditions of the new State and the struggle for conquering the different regions of Eastern Galicia, Vilnius and Poznania. These documents are guarded at the Historical office of the Italian Army General Staff and could be helpful to have a direct and deeper knowledge of a period in which the contemporary Poland was shaped through discussions and controversies.
