Following a recent study of the authors, in which the evolution of the flow structures during the nozzle start-up of the Vulcain engine has been numerically simulated, this paper aims at indicating the different characteristic scales of the phenomena. The final goal is to find the possible conditions of a simultaneous occurrence of flow situations that can lead to dangerous forms of instability as the side load, and to indicate possible ways to predict and to avoid the problem.

Abstract
