Pesticides contamination and water quality parameters

The water bodies conservation is under special attention, both because source of human supplies and for ecosystems preservation. In Italy, the conservation of all waters is at present regulated by D.L. 152/99, that partially forestalls the European Directive 60/2000. This regulation’s aim is conserving, protecting the aquatic ecosystems and promoting the gradual reduction of pollutants. The Community Directives 95/36 and 91/414, in force in Italy with D.L. 194/95, require measures (Environmental Concentration – EC) and forecasts (Predicted Environmental Concentration – PEC) of the concentrations of phytosanitary products in environmental matrix, through analytical methods and mathematical models. With reference to pesticides, surface water quality parameters, these calculation tools could revolutionize the forecast and the control of the contamination of water bodies.
