1-Benzyl-1,2-dihydro-3H-indazol-3-one has been produced by electrochemical reduction/cyclization of N-benzyl-N-nitrosoanthranilic acid at a mercury cathode; the research was carried out in different media and supporting electrolytes as well as at different temperatures in order to improve the yield.
