This study starts from an examination of the architectural events that led to the birth in the 16th century of the Church and Hospital of Santa Maria della Pietà de’ Pazzi then replaced in the 18th century by the new building of the Archconfraternity of the Bergamaschi; they are examined in relation to the urban development of the block located between piazza Colonna and piazza di Pietra, influenced by the urban planning policies of the popes who invested the area over the centuries transforming it into one of the most important in the city of Rome.
