This paper aims to highlight Tange and Isozaki’s responses to the theme of “urban erasure” by start- ing a real process of rebirth in postwar Japan. Tange’s reconstruction of Hiroshima is therefore linked to Isozaki’s design strategy for which the city of the future, in order to be configured and concretized, must first experience total destruction, that is the condition of the tabula rasa.
