The aim of this study is to delimit the semantic field of impersonality in two genetically and typologically distant languages, Italian and Hungarian. We will explore and compare the linguistic devices that one can use in order to express oneself impersonally. We also analyze whether there is a connection, and if so, what kind of connection exists between the functional types of impersonal structures and their coding, more precisely between the functional properties of the subject (referentiality, definiteness, Agent role, topicality, animacy), and the partial or complete loss of these properties on the one hand and the encoding strategies on the other hand.

Abstract
The aim of this study is to delimit the semantic field of impersonality in two genetically and typologically distant languages, Italian and Hungarian. We will explore and compare the linguistic devices that one can use in order to express oneself impersonally. We also analyze whether there is a connection, and if so, what kind of connection exists between the functional types of impersonal structures and their coding, more precisely between the functional properties of the subject (referentiality, definiteness, Agent role, topicality, animacy), and the partial or complete loss of these properties on the one hand and the encoding strategies on the other hand.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
