The paper reviews the references to animal horns in Neo-Sumerian administrative documents and Sumerian literature. It discusses the use of the “ibex horn” (a2 dara3) as a musical instrument, blown by the herald to call the assembly, the levy, and the battle, or struck as an idiophone. Furthermore, it presents evidence for the use of different types of animal horns as containers in rituals.
