The objective was to establish the relationship between regulatory emotional self-efficacy, depression and rumination in students who were part of a universal preventive intervention in school contexts for the promotion of prosocial behaviors and emotional regulation competencies. 240 subjects between 11 and 16 years of age participated (MD: 12.56 ± 0.98). 54.5% men and 45.5% women; middle school students from two public schools in the city of Santa Marta. Three specific instruments were used, one assessing perceived self-efficacy (negative emotions and expression of positive emotions). Another to measure depressive symptoms and another to assess the propensity not to forget the torments and offenses suffered and to meditate for long-term revenge, as opposed to the tendency to quickly overcome the negative feelings resulting from an immediate evil or the desire for reconciliation (Rumination). The descriptive analysis, Pearson’s bivariate correlation and Simple Linear Regression analysis found four positive cross-meanings and two negative or inverse ones. The mathematical correlation model was constructed to visualize the strength of the variables studied between one and the other, in order to determine a theoretical model for future studies. The results showed the following: Significant positive correlation between Depression and Age, direct relationship between the variables Rumination and Depression, Reverse correlation between Rumination and Self-efficacy. In the same way, it was found that Rumination and Self-efficacy are independent controlled variables for the Age factor, and that depression is dependent and therefore can be explained by the Age factor.
