Medicinal plants are exploited worldwide for their healing properties in many natural products, used for both medicinal and nutraceutical purposes, and as source of bioactive compounds in drug discovery . ▪ Natural products are endowed of specific features associated to their phytocomplex, including richness of different compounds, novelty in the chemical structures, interactions among the phytochemicals and possibility to exploit all the plant parts for pharmaceutical purposes. ▪ However, these products require to be characterized in order ensure their benefits and avoid health hazards. ▪ The use of natural products can expose the consumer to unexpected risks, for this reason it is important to monitor the suspected adverse reactions possibly induced by these products.
