Antigen 43 (Ag43) is a self-recognizing adhesin encoded by flu (or ag43) gene and used as an epidemiological marker of E. coli strains. It has been associated with cell aggregation and biofilm formation (1). We detected two K. pneumoniae (KP) clinical isolates (KP47 and KP34) carrying the same three different alleles of flu gene. Both KP isolates belong to Sequence Type (ST) 307. Since biofilm formation is critical for KP pathogenesis (2) and Ag43 is involved in this phenomenon, we investigated if flu alleles were expressed by KP47 and KP34 and if they increased biofilm formation and thus, potentially, virulence. In addition, we investigated the role of capsule, one of the major KP virulence treats, in biofilm formation as it can mask Ag43-mediated effects impairing the ability to produce biofilm (3)

Abstract
In addition, we investigated the role of capsule, one of the major KP virulence treats, in biofilm formation as it can mask Ag43-mediated effects impairing the ability to produce biofilm (3)I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
