In the last sixty years applied linguistics have turned their attention to contrastive analysis that is concerned with studying and finding the similarities and differences between a pair of languages or more. The pioneer was Robert Lado whose formulation of the “Contrastive Analysis Hypothesis” is considered the greatest contribution in the field of contrastive analysis studies. This paper will present an overview of this field on Italian and Spanish learning as foreign languages, focusing mainly on language trasfer and its effects, and attempts to identify the most problematic areas. Most of these errors, due to language transfer, interest all levels of analysis, from phonology to syntax passing through morphology and lexicon.

Abstract
In the last sixty years applied linguistics have turned their attention to contrastive analysis that is concerned with studying and finding the similarities and differences between a pair of languages or more. The pioneer was Robert Lado whose formulation of the “Contrastive Analysis Hypothesis” is considered the greatest contribution in the field of contrastive analysis studies. This paper will present an overview of this field on Italian and Spanish learning as foreign languages, focusing mainly on language trasfer and its effects, and attempts to identify the most problematic areas. Most of these errors, due to language transfer, interest all levels of analysis, from phonology to syntax passing through morphology and lexicon.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
