Purpose: The Wii Balance Board (WBB) has recently been validated for use with children above the age of ten years (Larsen et al., 2014) but younger children are lighter, proportionately different and vary more in their ability to understand instructions. Further investigation of the use of the WBB is needed before use of this as a reliable clinical outcome measure can be supported in practice. The aim of the current study was to attempt to validate the WBB as a measure of standing balance in children against gold standard force-plate measurement

Abstract

Purpose: The Wii Balance Board (WBB) has recently been validated for use with children above the age of ten years (Larsen et al., 2014) but younger children are lighter, proportionately different and vary more in their ability to understand instructions. Further investigation of the use of the WBB is needed before use of this as a reliable clinical outcome measure can be supported in practice. The aim of the current study was to attempt to validate the WBB as a measure of standing balance in children against gold standard force-plate measurement
