In 2017, thanks to the contribution of the Municipality of Civitavecchia (Rome), the Achelous Project began, an archaeological research project of the University of Bologna in collaboration with the University of Rome Sapienza, in synergy with local institutions and associations. The aim of the project is to investigate the area located east of Civitavecchia, named Ficoncella, with the analysis of the archaeological potential and the survey of the territory located between the Fosso della Fiumarella and Fosso dell’Infernaccio rivers. The first two years of archaeological research revealed the presence of a large rectangular structure, probably a sanctuary, that has had a long period of use. A pit containing many fragments of a decorated floor has been found in one of the rooms of this large structure. This first find confirms the importance of this area during the Roman period.

Abstract
This first find confirms the importance of this area during the Roman period.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
