This paper analyses the evolution of the productive and commercial landscape of Rome. The most significant events along this development may be identified between the 9th and the mid 8th c. BC, when the earliest habitation clusters settled on the Capitoline, on the Palatine and the Forum valley; at the end of the 7th century BC, when the first Emporium, located between the portus Tiberinus and the Forum appeared; and finally between the end of the 4th and the end of the 3rd centuries BC, when productive and commercial sites, such as the Macellum with forum Piscarium, forum Coquinum and forum Cuppedinis, are built.
