The term 'Maniera' was first used by Giulio Mancini to indicate a style remote from ‘naturale’. Mancini applied the term to the works by Raffaellino da Reggio, an artist who was immediately recognized as the very model for Cavalier d'Arpino's art. The latter was indicated by Bellori as the principal representative of Mannerism to which Annibale Carracci would react in Rome. It is likely that the concept of ‘Maniera’ was first brought to focus by Annibale, and through him passed into Agucchi's Treatise.

Abstract
The term 'Maniera' was first used by Giulio Mancini to indicate a style remote from ‘naturale’. Mancini applied the term to the works by Raffaellino da Reggio, an artist who was immediately recognized as the very model for Cavalier d'Arpino's art. The latter was indicated by Bellori as the principal representative of Mannerism to which Annibale Carracci would react in Rome. It is likely that the concept of ‘Maniera’ was first brought to focus by Annibale, and through him passed into Agucchi's Treatise.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
