A large number of fossils and nodules collected at Gunoren (western Pontides, Turkey) were frequently non randomly settled by eudesicrinid roots. Absolute dimensions and shape of the specimens demonstrate to be not discriminant characters for the colonization and thus a behavioural origin was hypothesize as the settlement controlling factor. A computer simulation was expressly built to test the behavior of the larvae of that group of extint Jurassic crinoids. The analysis of the simulation results versus actual data suggests that Early Jurassic eudesicrinids had a larval stage able to explore the substrate before settle.

Abstract
A large number of fossils and nodules collected at Gunoren (western Pontides, Turkey) were frequently non randomly settled by eudesicrinid roots. Absolute dimensions and shape of the specimens demonstrate to be not discriminant characters for the colonization and thus a behavioural origin was hypothesize as the settlement controlling factor. A computer simulation was expressly built to test the behavior of the larvae of that group of extint Jurassic crinoids. The analysis of the simulation results versus actual data suggests that Early Jurassic eudesicrinids had a larval stage able to explore the substrate before settle.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
