This article analyses the controversial case Burwell v. Hobby Lobby Stores Inc., decided by the U.S. Supreme Court in June 2014. It repre-sented a real turning point in American jurisprudence, recognising for the very first time that a for-profit company has the right to exemption based on religious freedom. It soon became an occasion to widely dis-cuss about free exercise of religion, freedom of association and personal liberty, giving the chance to rethink these pillars of the constitutional system.
