Abstract
The paper provides an overview of fear, a feeling of uncertainty and defensive retreat often generic and more pervasive in society today, easily exploited for electoral politics and commercial purposes by the media. These latter often contribute significantly to spreading the collective fears, such as devoting much space to the black chronicle, and dealing with natural disasters or terrorist acts as a spectacle. The essay also discusses the way in which the semiotics of culture, particularly that of Lotman, has themed the issue, finding some surprising similarities between the cases studied in the past and the contemporary. Among these, the construction of the enemy, identified in the otherness, in particular immigrants and women.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
