Luigi Amabile’s surgical professional activity and publications are likely to shed light on his celebrated – if controversial – activity as historian. Active in Naples in the years of a renewed alliance between scientific and experimental medicine and surgery, when the latter build on the results of pathological anatomy and cellular pathology, Amabile wrote outstanding medical works, whose echo reached an international audience, addressing questions broadly related to cicatrization of wounds.
