Dalla critica al fatale. Della teoria in Jean Baudrillard

The aim of this paper is to briefly reconstruct the theoretical proposal of Jean Baudrillard in light of the Mauss’s study of the potlatch, the “system for the exchange of gifts” that consists of a festival where goods and services of all kinds are exchanged and reciprocated with a dominant idea of rivalry and competition between the tribes assembled for the ritual. We will try to demonstrate that exactly on the basis of this perspective Baudrillard has rethought the social sphere emphasizing the dimensions of “antagonism”, “dare”, “reversibility” and “symbolic” (some of the typical traits of the potlatch). From here, beyond all critical and hermeneutics stances, we can find the development of a theory capable of replace the dialectical movement of production with the fatal movement of seduction.

In questo lavoro si cerca di ricostruire la proposta teorica di Jean Baudrillard alla luce degli studi maussiani sul potlach, il sistema arcaico di prestazioni rituali basato sul dono. Ci accorgiamo, infatti, che proprio a partire da tale prospettiva, Baudrillard ha cercato di ripensare il sociale sotto il segno dell’antagonismo, della sfida, della reversione e del simbolico (tratti, appunto, presenti nel potlach). Di qui, dunque, oltre ogni pretesa critica e al di là delle posizioni ermeneutiche, la messa a punto di una teoria che al movimento dialettico della produzione sostituisce quello, fatale, della seduzione.
