As A.M. Cirese himself has indicated, we can trace the origins of his mature thought (at least, of some of the major threads of his mature thought) back to his life and writings of the Mid-Fifties. In body and/or books, figures such as Croce, Gramsci, Levi, De Martino, met in that years, will be present in all his intellectual life. The book Cultura egemonica e culture subalterne, published in 1973 in his definitive version, represents the fulfillment of a task that Cirese assigned to himself: making the study of folklore in Italy an academic discipline as theoretically grounded as any other contemporary social science. The book is probably the best result achieved by any of the many Italian anthropologists who tried to enhance their discipline by dialoguing with Marxist social thought. But it appears to be also the tombstone for these efforts, not to be pursued anymore at such a high level in the decades to come.

Abstract
But it appears to be also the tombstone for these efforts, not to be pursued anymore at such a high level in the decades to come.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
