The binding of Cu(II) ions by hydrolysed maleic anhydride (MA) 1:1 copolymers with ethyl vinyl ether (MAEVE) and with acrylic acid (MAAA) has been studied in dilute aqueous solution. Techniques employed include: potentiometry, UV-spectroscopy, isothermal microcalorimetry and equilibrium dialysis. Both copolymers strongly interact with copper ions: the process is cooperative in nature, is entropy driven and leads to a characteristic charge-transfer band due to an electronic transition between the central metal ion and the electronic system localised on the ligands. Significant differences in the extent of Cu(II) binding between the two copolymers were found.

Abstract
Significant differences in the extent of Cu(II) binding between the two copolymers were found.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
