Abstract

Eosinophilic cytoplasmic inclusions in dopaminergic nigrostria-tal neurons, the primary component of which isa-synuclein, arethe pathological hallmark of Parkinson's disease (PD)[1]. Nervefi-bers immunoreactive to phosphorylateda-synuclein have beenidentified inpostmortem[2]andin vivo[3]submandibular gland bi-opsy from PD patients. Here we measured phosphorylated-a-synu-clein immunoreactivity in nervefibers from minor salivary glandbiopsy in PD. The study was approved by the“Sapienza”UniversityEthical Committee.
