La vie des hommes infâmes is a short essay licensed by Michel Foucault in 1978 and devoted to one of the central questions analysed in his major book Discipline and Punish: the visibility of the individual life in modern societies. Going back to the “classical age”, the historical pre-modern period focused in his former books, La vie des hommes infâmes becomes a conjunction between different layers of Foucault’s research. Explaining language and contents of an amazing series of archival texts, Foucault draws a line connecting his writings on literature of the Sixties, his studies on the genealogy of power of the early Seventies and his latest research concerning the constitution of the subject. La vie des hommes infâmes reveals a deep and astonishing relationship between crime story and individual strenght of resistance to power: a recurring theme of Foucault’s last works, but drawn in an original way in this short essay which also outlines a new vision of writing and literature.

La relazione fra potere e individuo, così come affrontata da Michel Foucault nei saggi successivi a "Sorvegliare e Punire", letta attraverso uno dei suoi testi chiave della metà degli anni Settanta : La vita degli uomini infami.
