We have analyzed two bronze works, from a Yemeni private collection, both depicting a right hand holding an object. In the first artwork, the object is a hemispherical bowl with an inscription in relief and probably comes from Maʿīn (al-Jawf), as suggested by the dedication by a man to the Minaean gods. The second artwork, seemingly not inscribed, is a hand supporting a seashell valve, presumably a feminine offering. The works, whose typology is part of Near Eastern iconographic spectrum, most probably date from the 1st century BC.

Abstract
We have analyzed two bronze works, from a Yemeni private collection, both depicting a right hand holding an object. In the first artwork, the object is a hemispherical bowl with an inscription in relief and probably comes from Maʿīn (al-Jawf), as suggested by the dedication by a man to the Minaean gods. The second artwork, seemingly not inscribed, is a hand supporting a seashell valve, presumably a feminine offering. The works, whose typology is part of Near Eastern iconographic spectrum, most probably date from the 1st century BC.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
