The evaluation of the antioxidant activity of some novel 3-hydroxybenzofuran-2-ones was carried out, comparing electrochemical and DPPH radical scavenging measurements.The substrates were obtained through a Lewis-acid-catalysed domino reaction involving a Friedel-Crafts alkylation of various polyphenols followed by a direct intramolecular lactonization.
