The archaeological excavations conducted by the EBAF of Jerusalem between November 2010 and April 2011 in the area of the Greek-Orthodox Church of Saint John the Baptist, in the centre of the Holy City, led to the recovery of 78 coins and 1 seal probably from the Ottoman era. The coins cover a very lengthy period from the 2nd century B.C. to the mid-14th century, with particular concentration during three periods (Asmonean, Late Roman and imitations, Byzantine) but there are also a significant numismatic documentation of the Umayyad era.
