Die Frage der "Verdeutschung" in den latein-deutschen Übersetzungen des Thomas von Aquin um die Zeit Edith Steins

In 1925 Edith Stein, a Catholic convert, began to translate Thomas Aquinas’ Quaestiones Disputatae de Veritate into German. Her work should be set in a period in which neoscholasticism sought to revive the thought world of the Middle Ages. As was already the case at the beginning of modern times, during this new translatio studiorum there was at this time much discussion of the relations between the Latin and German languages. Stein avoided the then widespread tendency to Germanize Latin terms. Such a tendency is by contrast, albeit in differing degrees, present in many other translations of Thomas undertaken in the same period, e.g., the translation of the Summa theologiae by Joseph Bernhart; the German Thomas-Ausgabe by the Dominicans and Benedictines of Germany; in the translation of the Summa contra Gentiles which appeared in 1935.
