From January to December 2014 we conducted a multicentre retrospective study in six tertiary care hospitals in a large metropolitan area of central Italy in order to ascertain the frequency and risk factors for CDI caused by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) ribotype 027. The local ethics committee approved the study.
