Conventional therapeutic contact lenses are of a hydrogel or collagen material. Although such lenses are suitable for treating selected ocular anomalies they are not suitable for others such as nystagmus, ptosis, microphthalmus, absolute albinism, conjunctival blebs, etc. Further there are no hydrogel lenses that transmit enough oxygen for extended wear over long periods. The Authors consider the use of other non conventional therapeutic contact lens type such as silicon rubber, RGP sclerals and corneals; disposable and low water content hydrogels, with the aim of treating a wider range of ocular pathology.

Abstract
Conventional therapeutic contact lenses are of a hydrogel or collagen material. Although such lenses are suitable for treating selected ocular anomalies they are not suitable for others such as nystagmus, ptosis, microphthalmus, absolute albinism, conjunctival blebs, etc. Further there are no hydrogel lenses that transmit enough oxygen for extended wear over long periods. The Authors consider the use of other non conventional therapeutic contact lens type such as silicon rubber, RGP sclerals and corneals; disposable and low water content hydrogels, with the aim of treating a wider range of ocular pathology.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
