The Authors discuss the usefulness to apply the systemic model to the interpretation and treatment of psychosomatic illness. Both the conceptual evolution (from the "noxious" family to the family as a "system") and the main researches confirming the opportunities to use a systemic perspective are presented. The theoretical and therapeutic implications of this point of view are then discussed.
