Abstract

The paper will contribute to the knowledge of some ancient monuments, roman theaters and amphitheatres, in the complex context of reuse of cultural and environmental resources in the territory, even through the reading of the Syracuse Charter for conservation, use and management of ancient theatrical architectures (2004). Through the study of some exemples, we want to identify analytical, methodological and operational tools to valorize these monuments and find new tourist-cultural dynamics. It comes to giving actions for restoration and conservation, ever more required by neglect and deterioration that often characterize such monuments or, on the contrary, the over-use determined from open-air performances, stand fittings and stage productions improvised and incompatible with this historical heritage. The ancient buildings, archaeological remains, need planned actions and constant maintenance. These structures must be included in the urban landscape through the creation of urban archaeological parks, as well as recovery of the original function with ‘soft’ operations and insertion of compatible and reversible scenic structures, mobile systems roofing partial and temporary, designed and implemented by specialized workers. A use, therefore, limited for these complex ancient structures that can be activated with respect and by rigid controls and quota performances, with the insertion of temporary works, easily reversible, able to protect the places and permit, simultaneously, the visit of the sites.
