The authors describe the model used in their training at the Italian Institutes I.E.F.C.O.S. and I.E.F.C.O.S.TRE for working with the systemic therapist's person. They underline that the therapist's personal training have to be done inside the global training trough its different development stages, and not separately as only a therapy. The authors identify four levels: a) the work on the family story of the student; b) the analysis of the interpersonal dynamics within the training group; c) the work on the trainee through the "live" supervision that allows the analysis of his particular emotional reactions to the impact to the family "games" during the therapy; d) the work on the trainee through the "indirect" supervision to evaluate his ability to manage his own internal world, his "Self" in therapy. The authors detail particularly the work with the family history of the trainee: it starts from the genogram and continues with other analogical and metaphorical constructions (sculptures, fairy-tales and narratives). They underline the usefulness to utilize metaphorical language to allow non-elaborated and unaware internal "knots" to show up as they could not be verbally expressed nor explored on a rational way. The whole process of training can be interpreted in terms of life cycle of the trainee who develops him/herself trough progressive autonomy and individuation of his/her own way of "being a therapist". © De Boeck Université. Abstract
