In its Recommendation of 27 July 2016 on the rule of law in Poland, the European Commission set out its concerns and recommended a series of measures that the Polish authorities should take to address them. The Recommendation is a step taken in view of the first ever application of Art. 7 TEU mechanisms, which aim at preventing and sanctioning serious and persistent breaches of EU common values by Member States.
