The paper aims at showing how Strabo made use of different trends of tradition in his description of Judaea (16.2.27-46): geographical literature, Greek woks on Egypt, philosophical treatises about the laws of foreign (and remote) people, scientific literature. Strabo did not have a malevolent position towards the Jews and he, and probably his sources, did not trust the anti-semitic stories rejected by Josephus in his Contra Apionem
