The contribution that the European integration process gave to the debate on contemporary democracy is a key element that cannot be ignored talking about the future of democracy. There are several perspectives moving from which we can face this topic: on the one hand we can consider the European institutional order as it has been regulated by the Treaties, on the other hand we can refer to the debate on the democratic deficit emerging by the theories on European integration.
