Currently in most of the neutronic codes the HGPT methodology is used to operate sensitivities analysis on the main parameters affecting the nuclear reactor design and operation. One of the advantage of the linear perturbation theory is that it makes use of function (neutron flux and importance) independent of the perturbation itself. Functional studied by the HGPT-BU methodology are : fluence values at defined positions and times, reaction rates at defined positions and times, amount of one or more material to a defined time, residual control value (eg. The boron density in the coolant of a LWR) at end of life. The perturbation theory has a wide range of applications, in particular the evaluation of the reactivity coefficients necessary, for example, for punctual kinetic calculations. The sensitivity analysis allows to study, in a systematic way, the effects of the basic parameters variations (cross sections, density, etc ..) on an integral parameter (reactivity worthes, reaction rates , etc ..).
