The essay aims to provide an iconological interpretation to the four pairs of paintings, realized by Camillo Boccaccino and Pier Francesco Ferranti, originally located on the shutters of the two Santa Maria di Campagna’s pipe organs. An appropriate explanation of the biblical scenes, which are pictured on the doors, relies onto the highly symbolic value attributed to organs as instruments of divine celebration, therefore capable of raising the praise of men to heaven. The 'musical' relationship which conjoins mankind with the Lord is the interpretive key that suggest to conceive our representations as a step along that journey of Redemption that, after the Original Sin, leads to achieving that conjunctive Covenant between God and man which culminates in the Annunciation as conceptio per aurem.

Abstract
The essay aims to provide an iconological interpretation to the four pairs of paintings, realized by Camillo Boccaccino and Pier Francesco Ferranti, originally located on the shutters of the two Santa Maria di Campagna’s pipe organs. An appropriate explanation of the biblical scenes, which are pictured on the doors, relies onto the highly symbolic value attributed to organs as instruments of divine celebration, therefore capable of raising the praise of men to heaven. The 'musical' relationship which conjoins mankind with the Lord is the interpretive key that suggest to conceive our representations as a step along that journey of Redemption that, after the Original Sin, leads to achieving that conjunctive Covenant between God and man which culminates in the Annunciation as conceptio per aurem.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
