The essay analyzes some of the most important conceptions of parties developed in Britain during the 18th Century, particularly the ones provided by Bolingbroke, Hume and Burke. Political parties are regarded both as agents and symptoms of a wider institutional transformation characterized by the emergence of opinion as a space where social and political behaviors are organized.
